MAPUSA- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating into the death of British teen is expected to file its charge-sheet in the next two months.
Speaking to this reporter Mr Vikram Verma, the counsel for the mother of the deceased has said that it appeared to him that the CBI was doing their job well and there was every possibility that the agency would file its charge-sheet in the next two months subject to availability of evidence, else he felt it could take a little longer.
Maintaining that the agency had a fairly good record of convictions Mr Verma was quite positive of some conviction here too. “We have from day one always believed that it is a case of homicide but the police maintained it to be a drowning case. If that was so why was the shack at that spot demolished soon?” wondered Mr Verma pointing out that it could have been done to destroy evidence.
Mr Verma also regretted that the state authorities had delayed in handing the organs of the deceased to the concerned authorities due to which till date the body was awaiting a decent burial.
It may be recalled that on February 18 morning this year the body of the girl was found in a mysterious condition at Anjuna. Though the police initially maintained it to be drowning, constant perseverance on the part of Mr Verma the counsel for the mother of the deceased finally led to the thorough investigations into the case.
PSI, Mr Nerlon Albuquerque who was the investigating officer in the case was then dismissed from service. The case was then handed over to Bicholim PI, Mr Braz Menezes for investigations before finally being handed over to CBI.
On the other side Mr Nerlon Albuquerque has moved a petition before the High Court praying that his dismissal be set aside as the entire procedure followed leading to his dismissal has been faulty. The petition is likely to come up for final hearing anytime after December 15.
