PANAJI- 'Fantasia - Goa Tour 08', a theatrical street performance by the children will be held at Margao, Vasco and Calangute, on November 18, 20 and 22, respectively.
Mr Matthew Kurian of El-Shaddai Street Child Rescue, addressing a press conference, on Monday said that ‘Teatro per Caso’, an Italian theatre company recently conducted a workshop for 27 abandoned street children as well as those from economically poor and broken families to walk on tilts, juggle with balls and perform circus acrobats.
“They would be performing for public at Open Sports Complex, Fatorda, on November 18, near Amberkar Club, Baina beach, on November 20 and at the Calangute Sports Association Ground, on November 22,” he added.
It was also informed that 20 other children have been asked to paint the backdrop for these performances.
Stating that Fantasia is the dream of a little girl, Mr Kurian said that in 2006, similar project worked with 200 such children, training them for a month and thus Fantasia was born. “In the year 2007, Fantasia was taken to the next level,” he recalled, adding that 25 children were trained for a street performance, who then toured the cities of Mumbai, Pune and Goa.
In Goa, El-Shaddai runs four homes and three night shelters as well as day care units for street children and orphans. It also provides a meal every day to needy children through the ‘Manna Meals on Wheels’ feeding programme, at Mapusa, Margao and Vasco.
“Our main aim is to work towards changing the future of these street children in Goa and other parts of India,” Mr Kurian said.
