PANAJI -The medical examination of the Dutch female has ruled out rape, the North Goa Superintendent of police, Mr Bosco George revealed on Monday.
A 24-year-old had complained to the police that she was drugged, robbed and raped by a group of Nigerians on the New Year’s eve near Anjuna beach.
The Dutch national had asked to be examined to clear any doubts in her mind about the sexual assault, if any, Mr George said.
Addressing a press conference, Mr George stated that the Dutch national was befriended by six Nigerians while sunbathing at the Arambol beach.
They had persuaded her to go out with them for New Year celebrations, the SP said, and added that the Dutch national went along with them in a black car towards Vagator.
On the way they offered her a soft drink, which knocked her out and she found her laptop, MP3 player and Rs 2,500 missing, when she regained consciousness, he informed.
Mr George said that in order to rule out any sort of sexual assault the Dutch national had requested to be referred for medical examination at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, which was done and the report came negative.
He said that an offence had been registered at Pernem police station under Section 328 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code on Friday.
Mr George said further investigation is in progress spearheaded by Anjuna police inspector, Mr Ramesh Gaonkar.
This incident coupled with the incident wherein a middle-aged woman was raped and left to die a few metres from a police bunker at Arambol beach on Christmas eve raises questions about the safety of women on our beaches where 24 hour patrolling is said to be going on in view of the heightened security alert.
The state cannot afford such incidents especially the tragic death of 15-year-old teenager Scarlett Keeling at Anjuna beach, which caused much damage to the state’s reputation, the infamous German minor’s case caused harm to the already reeling tourism industry.
