PANAJI- The first meeting to ensure smooth organization of Carnival 2009 was held on February 2 at Miramar Residency. Carnival will be held in 4 Goan cities namely Panaji on February 21, Margao on February 22, Vasco on February 23 and Mapusa on February 24.
The chairman of GTDC, Mr Shyam Satardekar presided over the meeting. The vice chairman of GTDC, Mr Lyndon Monteiro, managing director of GTDC, Dr Benjamin Braganza and Director Tourism, Mr Swapnil Naik were also present at the meeting and deliberated on the same.
The Central Committee for organizing the Carnival 2009 was formed in the meeting. Mr Shyam Satardekar is the chairman of the Committee, Mr Lyndon Monteiro is the chief co-coordinator, Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji, Mr Tony Rodrigues is the vice-chairman, Mr Savio Coutinho (chairperson of Margao municipal council) is the vice chairman, Ms Rupa Bhakta (chairperson of Mapusa municipal council) is the vice chairman, Mr Pritesh Gaonkar (chairman Mormugao municipal council) is the vice chairman. Mr Victor Gonsalves (ex-MLA), Mr Joaquim Teles, Mr Francisco Martins, Mr Tony Dias, Mr Timotio Fernandes, Mr Angelo Nunes, Mr Rayan Braganza, Mr Francis Noronha, Mr Gonzago Rebello are the advisors to the organising committee while Dr Benjamin Braganza is elected as the member secretary and Mr Swapnil Naik as
conveyor.
Respective carnival committees will be formed separately at Panaji, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa unanimously. The Carnival Parade route in all the centers Panaji, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa will remain the same as it was in the previous years. Local committees along with 2 members from GTDC and Department of Tourism will take care of scrutinizing all the floats at the parades. Local committees at various centers will be given free hand at organising various programmes at their centres. GTDC will invite entries from interested persons to become King Momo. Entries should reach the GTDC office on or before February 6.
