PANAJI - Dempo Charities Trust’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Arts & Science, Miramar, celebrated the Founder’s Day on March 4 to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of the founder, late Vasantrao Dempo. The Chairman of DCT, Mr Srinivas Dempo was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dempo extended best wishes to the institution in its future endeavours. He highlighted that Founder’s Day is celebrated to pay tributes to the founder of the institute and also to help us learn a lesson from this great visionary, late Vasantrao Dempo.
Mr Dempo added that the founder empowered people to bring about a change in the existing system and do away with corruption, terrorism and the like. He called upon the students to inculcate reading habit, as there is no substitute to reading. He appealed to the parents to encourage their children to take up careers in liberal arts. He congratulated the recipients of the scholarships. He also congratulated the Principal, Mr A Varughese and his team for their dedication and hard work despite constraints. He acknowledged the kind gesture of Mr Premanand Pednekar, PTA executive member, for donating a printer, scanner-cum-copier to the institution.
Scholarships to pursue studies in HSSC, graduation and post graduation courses for the students of Santa Cruz for the year 2008-09 were announced by the Administrator, Mr Sunil Prabhudesai and the same were distributed at the hands of the Chairman, Mr Srinivas Dempo and Trustee, Mr Vishwasrao Dempo.
Mr Dempo inaugurated a water cooler, which would provide pure drinking water to the students. Mr Nakul Pokhare and Mr Chandrashekhar Chowdhary, retired administrative staff members were felicitated at the hands of the Chairman, Mr Srinivas Dempo and trustee, Mr Vishwasrao Dempo respectively.
Earlier, the principal, Mr A Varughese welcome the gathering and presented a brief report of the activities of the school.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included PTA president, Adv Erlich D’Souza, Principal of Voicuntrao Sinai Dempo HSS of Commece, Ms Laxmi Moye, Co-ordinator of IGNOU, Mr Anil Nadkarni, Parish Priest of St Cruz, Rev Fr Saude Pereira and PTA executive body members.
Earlier, the staff members presented an invocation song. The vote of thanks was proposed by the co-ordinator of the programme, Mr F X Borges, while Ms Vanaja Mudaliar compered the function.
