PONDA - The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Serafin Dias Wednesday informed that Mahanand Naik, the serial killer from Tarvale, Shiroda, has confessed to killing two more girls for the greed of gold. With this Mahanand has so far confessed to killing 12 innocent girls in last 15 years.
Mr Dias said, “Mahanand Naik, on late Tuesday night confessed to killing a 30-year-old girl, Bhagi Pandu Satarkar of Keri, Ponda in 2005 and Deepali Dattaram Jotkar (27) of Davorlim, Margao in 2007. Both were killed for his avarice of gold after having sexually assaulting them,” Mr Dias added.
Mahanand killed Bhagi using the same modus operandi which was used in his earlier cases. He befriended Bhagi and gained her confidence. He later took her to Borim, near sluice gate, where he had killed two other girls earlier, and sexually assaulted her before killing her with her dupatta. He removed her gold jewellery worth about Rs 75,000 and also her clothes to hide her identity. He then dumped her in the river waters,” Mr Dias said quoting Mahanand. The decomposed body of Bhagi was found in the Ponda police jurisdiction and an unnatural death case was registered in May 2007.
In the second case, he eloped with Deepali after he befriended her when he took the construction work of a room of Jotkar family at Davorlim, Margao in the year 2007, Mr Dias said, adding that Mahanand confessed that he took her to Cuncolim, near railway canal and killed her. He robbed her cash and gold worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
Sources said that Deepali even wrote a note to the parents that with her own wish she is leaving for Pune and that nobody should be held responsible for that. The parents, however, did not complaint to the police about it to hide their family prestige, but later filed a complaint.
Interestingly, on Wednesday they filed another missing complaint with the Maina Curtorim police station about their first daughter Pallavi Jotkar, who went missing some days prior to Deepali’s disappearance.
Ms Nirmala Satarkar, sister of Bhagi revealed that Bhagi had even borrowed her gold to meet the prospective groom on that fateful day, which turned out to be serial killer Mahanand.
