PANAJI- The Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) under the aegis of Goa Body Building and Fitness Association (GBBFA) will organise an all Goa bodybuilding contest on June 6 at indoor stadium, Fatorda, Margao from 5 to 10 in the evening.
The event is being organised with a prime motive to select 10-12 state bodybuilders in order to form a pool of talent, which will remain Goa’s medal prospects for the 2011 National Games to be held in the state.
Disclosing the objectives of the bodybuilding contest, the SAG’s executive director Mr V M Prabhudesai informed a press conference here on Friday that there were quite a number of misconceptions beholding the true bodybuilding faction prevailing in Goa.
By holding tomorrow’s contest, the SAG and the GBBFA aim to convey that GBBFA is the true and recognized body for the sport of bodybuilding in Goa,” Mr Prabhudesai remarked.
The competition will also send the message across that there is unanimity and solidarity as far as bodybuilders and the association they represent in Goa is concerned and as such we have no discrimination against the Sandesh Narverkar faction as boys from his group will also be allowed to participate,” Mr Prabhudesai pointed out, highlighting that the goal is to create an awareness on bodybuilding and not get entangled into petty issues.
Further divulging that the Chief Minister and Sports Minister have both agreed to grace the prize-distribution function on Saturday night, Mr Prabhudesai disclosed that candidates who would potentially become Goa’s medal prospects at the National Games 2011, would also be picked after tomorrow’s contest. The list will, however, be disclosed at a later date.
Therefore, the SAG and GBBFA directs the bodybuilders to come prepared for the one-day event and showcase their talent as the stage is big and demands high level of competition and skill to impress the scouts,” the SAG ED asserted.
Besides, ‘Mr India’, Amit Choudhary from Bulandshehar (UP) will be the star attraction for tomorrow’s contest and interact with the participants. He would also perform a live demonstration to the audience at Fatorda.
Amit will interact with the participants and share his international experience and offer tips,” disclosed Mr Sanjay Patil, GBBFA president.
We want Goa to reap at least 2 or 3 bodybuilding medals at the forthcoming National Games and from that point of view I feel tomorrow’s event bears immense importance,” disclosed Mr Patil. Cash prizes worth Rs 1 lakh have been earmarked for the Fatorda contest, as there will be a lot more at stake for the participants besides climbing the podium.
Close to 80 bodybuilders are expected to participate in the contest in six groups with two national judges set to evaluate the contestants.
Meanwhile, Mr Sanjay Raikar, ex-national weightlifting champion and Mr Shyam Savardekar, weightlifting coach, will be felicitated during tomorrow’s contest.
