PANAJI: The GFA secretary, Mr Savio Messias on Thursday, categorically stated that he was not travelling to Portugal as team manager of the Goa (India) football team for the Lusofonia Games, thus clearing the air on the litigious issue as to who wasn’t accompanying the Indian contingent for the Porto event. In my entire career as a football administrator, I have never clamoured about foreign trips and I would want to make a statement that I have no desire to travel to Portugal for the Lusofonia Games,” Mr Messias informed ‘The Navhind Times’ on Thursday evening.
He also declined to comment when asked whether Mr Anju Albuquerque and Mr Lavinio Rebello, would be the officials travelling to Portugal, although it was reliably learnt that procedures were set in motion to ensure that the duo would now be the officials who would accompany the football team for the prestigious Lusofonia Games.
Besides, Mr Messias also parried the question when asked whether he was originally slated to travel to Portugal as Goa (India) manager.
In the past, I have been to Portugal on my own expenditure not once but four times. And, despite that I have always shared news at my own expense during such visits,” Mr Messias asserted, reiterating that he was not travelling to Portugal this time.
